The most disgusting person in both the entertainment and 'art' scenes today. Or, dare I say, the most disgusting person infiltrating them.

First heard about Vincent Gallo on the cover of a magazine that didn't like him for good reason. Looked like a really ugly hippie-yuppie-junky-muso complete with a "my music is better than yours" sneer, the kind I've always used to see around the Rochester NY music scene. (And he's apparently from Buffalo.) Any band they were in played unlistenable bar-band crap! And inside he admitted to being an obnoxious, evil Republican commie-basher. Another minus... And his so-called 'avant-garde' music was just Emo-crap trying to be Jandek but instead, sounding just like a cruddy hippie/muso bar-band. (Hip hip hooray!)

What disgusts me is how a small amount of people love him, especially (and incongruently) left-wingers who apparently greatly lack the dignity not to hang with wannabee-junkies who don't bathe. I assume all his redneck Bush-loving friends smell pretty bad too!

Here's another muso I hate: Billy Zoom! From a band I used to like called X, and Zoom wasn't even why I ever liked them in the first place. The Eric Crapton of punk -- more hippy than he makes himself out to be, arrogantly sticking to 'roots' but lacking the soul blues/R&B/rockabilly ever even had. Plays with a shit-eating grin on his face constantly, like he's the best guitarist in the world. And a 'ConPunk', not exactly the cherry on an already stale cake...

Well I've been reading Punk Rock: So What?, edited by Roger Sabin, which is a critique and demystification of punk. Such as punk didn't start-out as left-wing or 'anti-racist' as was claimed. Particularily a chapter about actual racism in the early British punk scene, long before Skrewdriver turned Nazi. Incidently I had to do several internet searches on the subject and came up with the link above.

Frankly the more I found out about 'nazi punk' and 'nazi skinhead' music, the more I was reminded of the vile ConPunk bands and their pathetic website. It's no different and no-less bigoted, the only difference is the dishonesty. Frankly I've stopped caring about fare like Skrewdriver or Vaginal Jesus -- however vile it is I just can't be arsed to raise my hands in alarm over it, especially when the ARA and AntiFa are just as bad. And of course that could lead to Death In June which I've talked about at forums enough, and yes I like them and I'm not sorry either. But DIJ don't spout hatred by-and-large whereas both the 88ers and the ConPunks do.

But ConPunk is more annoying because, like alot of 'Neo-Folk' fans, they're defensive about charges of racism, although it is the ConPunks who will produce typical Archie Bunker-style justifications for their own stupidity. Of course it's easy for them to simply attack 'liberals' or even to be as ugly as saying 'liberals' are racist or are Nazis, just so they can cover their own much-uglier racism. Sure it might be pure speculation on my part, but none on the right have ever really made a convincing argument in my eyes. Maybe they would if they didn't seem so cynical, alarmist, or just plain insulting...

Incidently, changing the subject slightly, I found a new punk magazine called Loud Fast Rules. I was kinda disappointed that the Pork Dukes piece was just pictures and no text, but it did have some good articles. I do admit I wince at any new 'punk' mag as now I'm expecting it to be ConPunk or about ConPunk. There's little about such bands here luckily, not even those unfathomable neanderthals AntiSeen. (Good!)

However, something has to be said about what Jello Biafra says in that magazine. He's under the erroneous impression that we can change so-called 'conservatives' by talking to them. Maybe Jello should try to post on the highly unpleasant ProtestWarrior forum. I'm sure he won't get very far there!
